Jeret grew up in Los Angeles watching his father practice as a black belt in Judo. At the age of 14, he and his father studied Kendo at the Torrance Kendo Federation for three years; and after high school, when he attended California Institute of the Arts to study theater, he was introduced to stage combat and Tai-Chi. After studying Tai-Chi for two years he became an assistant instructor.

It wasn't until a screening of Jackie Chan's Drunken Master that Jeret felt kung fu would be the of study to follow. After discovering BTKA in 2002, he has completed virtually all of Sifu Wang's curriculum (and then some), with an emphasis on Internal styles and Qin Na.
